On 9 June 2012, Metallica headlined the Download Festival at Donington Park in Leicestershire, England, where they performed their iconic 1991 self-titled "Black Album" in its entirety.

• Reverse Order: In a unique twist for their 2012 European Black Album Tour, the band performed the album's tracks in reverse order, starting with "The Struggle Within" and ending with "Enter Sandman".
• Special Anniversary: The performance celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Download Festival and the roughly 20th anniversary of the album's release.
• Rare Tracks: Several songs from the album, including "The Struggle Within" and "My Friend of Misery," were played live at Donington for the first time during this set.
• Atmosphere: Despite the "typical Donington mud," the band played for over two hours, concluding the night with a massive fireworks display and "Seek & Destroy".
