Slayer is an American thrash metal band formed in Huntington Park, California, in 1981 by guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, and drummer Dave Lombardo. Renowned for their breakneck speed, atonal guitar solos, and aggressive musicianship, Slayer is widely celebrated as one of the "Big Four" pioneers of thrash metal, alongside Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax.
